My Story

My passion for the healing power of food started with my own health challenges.

During my teen years I trained seriously as a competitive swimmer, with a diet, that on reflection, was inadequate to support the demands of my sport.  After giving up swimming, I battled with an eating disorder for roughly 7 years.  Later in life after having two beautiful girls I started to feel really tired.  Like many of us, I put it down to a busy life with two small children and a husband that travelled a lot.

By the time I was in my mid to late thirties the tiredness was overwhelming.  I had started getting sick all the time, and I knew I needed help.  After being passed from doctor to doctor and test after test I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue.  This is a frustrating diagnosis.  It felt like there was no real treatment.  I was offered a referral to a psychologist and an exercise physiologist.  Help finally came from a holistic practitioner. Interestingly, after all the medical practitioners I had seen he was the first person to ask me what I ate and drank!

I consequently made dietary and lifestyle changes and slowly but surely my energy came back to something resembling normal. Once I had the energy levels to make it through the day without sleeping, I was inspired to learn more about how the dietary changes I made could make such a difference to my health. Consequently, I completed a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine and started practicing as a Clinical Nutritionist.

But the journey didn’t end there. As I transitioned into perimenopause and started treating women of all ages I discovered the power that herbal medicine could have on all areas of health, and in particular, hormonal imbalances and mental health.

Which brings me to today. I have added a Bachelor of Western Herbal Medicine to my qualifications and would love to help others navigate their own health challenges. If you would like to know more about how food and herbal medicine can influence your health call or email me. I would love to discuss your situation.

What is Nutritional & Herbal Medicine?

They are both holistic forms of healing that consider broader influences on health such as lifestyle, psychological stressors and environmental exposures.

Nutritional medicine is a science that considers how food and food’s individual constituents’ influence health outcomes both positively and negatively. Nutritional medicine is the cornerstone of health. Herbal medicine has been used for centuries throughout the globe and involves using herbs or extracts of herbs to treat a variety of health conditions.

As a practitioner I have a highly individualised and personal approach based on the latest scientific research. I will work with you to identify the underlying causes of any imbalances and collaboratively formulate dietary and lifestyle changes and possibly nutritional or herbal supplementation, that supports your health while also accommodating your lifestyle and personal preferences. I will utilise advanced functional testing around food intolerances, gastrointestinal health, hormone regulation, hair mineral analysis and genetics if needed.

I am also a Metabolic Balance practitioner. Metabolic Balance is a German individualised nutrition plan that utilises 36 blood markers and the latest nutritional scientific research to design a food plan tailored to maximise your health. While the benefit is sustainable, long term weight loss, correcting metabolic dysregulation may also improve sleep, reduce inflammation and joint diseases, modulate hormones, and reduce the risk of conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, gout and metabolic disease.

Metabolic Balance is $1200 and is a 12 week program that includes an initial appointment of 1 hour and 15, an individualised food plan based on 36 blood markers and 6 follow-up 30 minute appointments where I monitor and guide progress.  Blood works cost an additional approx $160 which I can order but can be ordered from a GP as well.

In addition, I have a special interest in endocrine disorders such as chronic fatigue, thyroid disorders and women’s health more generally including peri-menopause, menopause, vaginal health, urinary tract infections, fibroids, polycystic ovary syndrome, premenstrual syndrome and heavy, painful periods.

If your goal is to just optimise your health and reduce weight I am more than happy to help you decipher fact from fiction from the often confusing and conflicting information around food and health.

Conditions I can help with include:

Digestive Disorders –indigestion, reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, food intolerances and allergies.

Immune Conditions – frequent colds and flu’s, hayfever, allergies, recovery from viruses such as glandular fever.

Autoimmune Conditions – thyroid conditions, Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis etc.

Mental Health – depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances.

Cardovascular Disease & Metabolic Disorders – high cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes, obesity.

Women’s Health – hormone regulation, menopause, heavy, painful periods, premenstrual syndrome.  Also endocrine disorders such as chronic fatigue and thyroid disorders.

I highly recommend Tricia to anyone looking to improve their health and well-being.  She is extremely knowledgeable, understanding, supportive and friendly.

We came to Tricia as my daughter had a health complaint. Tricia immediately formed a great rapport with my daughter and I. She assessed past and current conditions, diet, lifestyle, medication and blood tests. She explained the impact diet was having on my daughter’s health and recommended an easy to implement treatment plan, encompassing food and lifestyle strategies, and supplements to support her health.

We noticed a huge improvement when we implemented the treatment plan. Moreover, through thorough questioning and further testing, Tricia identified a negative effect current medication is having on her health which we are now investigating.

We feel so supported by Tricia and comforted by her extensive knowledge. We look forward to continuing our journey to health with her.

I am so privileged to have Tricia as my Practitioner, her attention to detail is incredible. She is solution based to get practical solutions for issues that have presented. More importantly she has an incredible empathy and the ability break down complex issues and explain them in a simple form.

Tricia’s follow up research and knowledge is impressive. I wish there were more Practitioners like her.

I was always a high energy person with a positive outlook but after several medical issues and the inevitable chronic ailments associated with ageing, I found myself struggling to get through a normal day. I began to regard myself as an old person whose life was now quite restricted as I was tired all the time. This affected my view of myself and the world in a negative way. I just felt old and ugly.

Tricia Yetsenga prescribed a course of supplements that are easy to take and some dietary changes and within 5 weeks, my whole outlook improved. I have more energy so I can participate in activities again. The best part is that I feel so much more cheerful, hopeful and self confident. I even think I look better which, although illusory, helps me every day.
